Johanne Thériault Paulin, B.A, LL.B.

With a diverse range of roles under her belt, from prosecuting and defending criminal cases to serving on appeal boards and tribunals, Johanne has proven herself to be a highly skilled and committed legal professional.

She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Information and Communications, with a minor in Sociology from the University of Moncton. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the same university. To further enhance her expertise, she pursued Public Leadership training and obtained a Negotiation Certification from the esteemed Harvard University.

Johanne is known as a meticulous, strategic and creative problem-solver, who achieves superior results for her clients both inside and outside of the courtroom.

She is able to combine insights from diverse legal contexts in order to provide a thoughtful defence for clients facing multi-faceted problems (such as concurrent criminal, regulatory, and civil actions).

Johanne was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 2009 and embarked on her professional journey at a private firm. Since 2012 (ad hoc since 2018), she has been serving as a Crown Prosecutor specializing in criminal law at the Office of the Attorney General of New Brunswick. In 2018, she re-entered private practice, enabling her to undertake diverse roles within various administrative tribunals and act as an agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

In addition, Johanne currently serves on several appeal boards and tribunals. She has been a Vice-Chair of the New Brunswick Worksafe Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) since October 2017 and has earned a second term in the position. She was also appointed as Chair of the Appeal Board of Competencies and Credential for Teacher Education and Early Childhood Development Minister, Province of New Brunswick in November 2017 and has earned a second term. In April 2020, she was appointed as President of the New Brunswick Mental Health Tribunal until July 2023.

As of July 2023, Johanne has been actively serving as a Board Member for the Vitalité Health Network.

Professional Involvement

Johanne's leadership skills have been demonstrated in her role as:

•  President of the New Brunswick Canadian Bar Association Continuing Professional Development Committee from 2012 to 2023.

• Elected to the Law Society of New Brunswick's council, where she served as a council member for ten years until 2020, completing three terms.

• Member of the New Brunswick Criminal Efficiencies Committee since February 2017.

• Member of the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development committee from 2010 until 2021.

• Member of the Legal Knowledge and Professional Skills Examination Committee of the Law Society of New Brunswick since 2022.
